The accurate navigation is very important to the AUV to reach the place exactly and finish the work. Many researcher and designer have paid more attentions to the AUV underwater navigation, have done a lot of study and tests, and have gotten many achievements.In this paper, navigation and position technology for one small-sized AUV was researched, New scheme of navigation system of this small-sized AUV was finished to aim at solving the problem of existing navigation system, such as low precision, bulky, and have finished the muster according to the required function. The fangled handy underwater navigation equipment use battery, little volume, which is convenient to the user. The new type of handy underwater navigation equipment mainly shows the navigation information for frogman, lead AUV or frogman to the target position to finish the task. To keep the equipment airproof in the water, I have designed a handset equipment to transmit the information of Target position to this underwater navigation equipment.The handy navigation and position system of the Autonomous Underwater vehicle (AUV) combines GPS with the Dead Reckoning navigation algorithm. When the AUV works under water, the electronic compass measures the course of the AUV, the current sensor measures the speed of the AUV, it makes use of the algorithm to offer the navigation and position information. Due to the influence of ocean current, the current sensor can't measures the speed of the ocean current. The speed of the ocean current is got by calculate the vector of GPS and DR.According to the experiment, which was taken in April 2006, the AUV navigates a long distance using the navigation and position system, and the precision is good.
