To realize efficient solution of electromagnetic (EM) scattering from large scale targets has very practical value for the design of radar system and identify of radar targets. It should realize accurate simulation and numerical computation of EM scattering from large scale targets under the available computer resource condition. The numerical results have relative high accuracy and can agree with the measurement. Meanwhile, it should realize relatively fast analysis and computation based on the above condition. Hence, it is the important goal of scattering research to find out a rigorous, efficient and accurate method. At the first of this paper, the pivotal techniques of the basic method for solving the integral equation, method of moments (MOM), have been studied, including that geometrical modeling of the object, choosing of basis functions and testing functions. Next, detailed discussion about two aspects of higher-order method is discussed: The higher-order geometrical modeling and higher-order basis function. Following, the application in EM scattering of fast multipole method (FMM) and multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) is introduced. Basis principles are expounded. Dependability of procedure is validated. At last, fast far-field approximation (FAFFA) is combined with MLFMA. Basis principles are expounded, too. Numerical results are given.
