Because micro-structure is a significant factor in the engineering characteristic of soil, geotechnical engineering field has attached importance to the study of soil structure increasingly. The paper studies the transformation of sand structure mostly. By means of computer image analysis system and statistic methods, the paper analyzes images of sand micro-structure quantificationally and qualitively, then will obtain two parts of quantificational information: one part is the analytical data of micro-structure about the image of model experiment; the other is the data about Particle Flow Code (PFC) image of sand around pile-bucket foundation on uplifting load.Physical model experiment will simulate actual engineering practice, and its model is reduced according to the same proportion of the actual foundation. In the process of the experiment, we take the sequential pictures of sand transformation using microscope and digital camera. The pictures are analyzed by means of MiVnt image analysis soft, and we will study the basic micro-structure, orientation of sand grain and porosity of sand. Then the basic micro-structure includes area, long and short axis and eccentricity of grains, orientation of sand grain just is the ratio of long axis and level x axis. The paper study the change of the parameters in order to make out the transformation character of sand grains before and after breakage of sand body.Particle Flow Code method is a kind method of micro-mechanical analysis and numerical simulation.
