With the continuing expansion of power grids and the accelerating process ofpower system information, the requirements for computing power for electric powersystem is increasing. Traditional centralized power system simulation is not able to meetthe requirements of power system computing. Utility is looking for new computingresources and novel computing technology that can meet the demand. The power system automation laboratory at UESTC began to explore new efficientpower system computing platform and had designed the grid computing platform basedon GLOBUS. But GLOBUS has the disadvantages such as complex structures, serviceoriented, and demanding for the advanced users. Frequent service activation timeseriously restricts the performance of the computing. The advantage is not so prominentas it is used for power system computing. In order to design a computing platform with simple structure and the highperformance, this thesis implements a new distributed parallel computing platform. Theplatform is developed based on P2P (Peer-to-Peer: communications) technology andsupported by JXTA protocol. It makes use of network computers as distributed parallelcomputing nodes, implementing a wide area network distributed parallel computing.Through efficient task partitioning algorithm and the improved efficient high-speed datatransmission, the computing platform can perform fast computing function for electricpower system. And it has a simple structure. This thesis also implements a distributedparallel computing package WD-MPI (Wide Area Network Message Passing Interface)and its basic communication operations, based on the developed computing platform, making the WD-MPI be able to perform basic communication among nodes in WAN(Wide Area Network). In this thesis, typical power system data flow calculations are tested on the P2Pdistributed parallel computing platform. The results show that the platform has highspeed of data transmission and high performance of computing ability for power system, compared to other platforms. The platform provides a new method for power systemcomputing.
