In the modern warfare, the complex environment needs high quality of guidance system, so the single module guidance system can't suit battlefield in the future because of its dependence on working environment. Multi-module combined guidance system will be the development trend of weapon system. The infrared/ millimeter wave combined guidance system has become one of combined guidance technology's important development direction because of its potential superiority .In this paper, a systematic research is performed about approaches of target fusion detection in IR/MMW combined guidance system.Firstly, the paper introduced infrared and millimeter wave system's some respective characteristics as well as several kinds of IR/MMW combined guidance system, then introduced the infrared target detection as well as millimeter wave target detection and some related technologies. Secondly, the paper gave expatiations on the information fusion theory, separately from the information fusion's definition, principle, technical, method and application as well as the multi-sensors fusion detection system's classification, performance comparison, processing model and its design method. Thirdly, four kinds of multi-sensors fusion detection algorithm based on IR/MMW combined guidance system has introduced in this paper. The details and simulations about these algorithms and also the quality comparisons about these algorithms were given in this paper.
