Image guidance is the key technology of Precision Guided Weapon (PGW) while image tracker is the core of image guiding system. In the past, image tracker only had single working mode. And what's more, it was only used in the target identification and track in simple background such as in the air or above the sea surface. As photoelectric convector and high-speed real-time image processing technology develop rapidly, image tracker is more and more based on multi-tracking-window and multi-mode(such as correlation track and contrast track).However, every algorithm usually works well under certain condition. The tracking effect may be different in different circumstances.How to confirm the best tracking mode?This thesis suggests a standard named believable-degree.The research on intelligent image tracker included in this thesis was a part of the south-west technology and physics institute's research project. The structure of high-performance DSP plus FPGA was used in this image tracker which size was only 110×156mm2. The optimal design of software ensured that image tracking was real-time, high-precision and high-stability. In addition, the image tracker's hardware was characterized by versatility so that it could meet the requirements of different image guiding systems such as television, infrared and radar image guiding systems.Based on the summary of the recent research work inside and outside the homecountry, this thesis presented a lot research work on image tracker from the author to hardware. The main works are the following three:1. As the core of image tracker, the advanced DSP technology (ADSP-TS201) and the programmable logic device (EP1S40F1020 chip) were combined together to make certain that instruction was completed within single instruction period.It supplied powerful hardware for high speed tracking operation.2.Completed the tracking theory and DSP program,such as subtraction track,frequency domain track and contrast track.3. As for the design of the software, multi-mode and multi-tracking-window algorithm was realized: subtraction track,frequency domain track and contrast track were combined together with believable-degree. The application of multi-tracking-window and multi-mode algorithm made image tracker choose optimal tracking result intelligently, which greatly enhanced the synthesized performance of image tracker.
