The standard value of 500MPa steel bar's tensile strength is 500MPa. It is a new type steel bar which has many merits, such as hi-strength and strong ductility. This kind of steel bar has been used prevalently in foreign countries. But it hasn't been taken in by new Code for design of concrete structures(GB50010-2002). In order to take the internationalization into reality as soon as possible and popularize this new kind of steel bar in engineering area of our country, the experiment researches should be done on the main characteristic of 500MPa reinforced flexural members.The mechanical properties of eccentrically loaded columns with 500MPa steel bars under ultimate state are studied in this thesis. It mainly includes,1. The influence of eccentricity, ratio of reinforcement are considered in this thesis. 9 R.C. columns under eccentric loading are conducted to experiment. The failure mode, loading capacity and the relation between axial load and strain of the column are analyzed, the figures and tables are also made in this paper.2. Analysis of the load—deflection curves ,the load—strain curves of the steel bar ,the load—compression strain curves of concrete and the supporting capacity of eccentrically loaded columns with 500MPa steel bars are carried out, considering eccentricity and ratio of reinforcement .The results show that 500MPa steel bar works harmonically with concrete.3. Analysis of the mechanics of eccentrically loaded columns with 500MPa steel bars are carried out. Code methods is presented. Comparisons are made between the solutions and experimental data. The results show good agreement which can be used as a reference to the 500MPa steel bar be used in practical engineering and be taken in by code for design of concrete structures when further modified the code.
