Electro-catalyst is one of the key materials of Direct Methanol Fuel cell (DMFC). Some researches were studied on electro-catalyst of DMFC. Unsupported Pt Black and Pt-Ru Black electro-catalyst were prepared by employed citrate sodium as a protective agent in ultrasonic environment. The electro-catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and linearity sweep voltammetry (LSV), and the single cell performance were tested on test bench. The fittest technological conditions were obtained by observing and studying the mainly influencing factor in the preparation process. The mechanisms of the method were studied:1. Sodium citrate react with platonic salt in 50℃water bath, pH=8, mol rate 1:1, reaction time is 1h. The function structure is ionization C6H5O73-.2. Nano-sized catalyst was obtained by acoustic effects of cavitations, streaming as well as nonlinear alternating vibration. The best catalysts were prepared at 15W/cm2, 40 kHz ultrasonic conditions by employed NaBH4 as reducing agent.3. XPS patterns shows: the adsorpted organism was removed by heat treatment, but the diameter of nano-size catalyst was increased through the heat treatment. The performance of Pt Black catalyst was lower after the heat treatment.4. The contrast with Johnson Matthey Corp. product shows that the performances of home-made electro-catalysts have achieved a high level. This method shows its applicability by preparing and characterization of Pt-Ru Black electro-catalyst.This reaction is easy to operation; the system's condition was mild and controllable. This method has good application prospect.
