A vital weakness of traditional gun weapon systems is the large quantities of ammunition consumption caused by low firing accuracy. It becomes more and more important to remold the traditional ammunition by using modern guided technology. In countries with advanced ordnance, it is an important research field, in which the success will cause great revolution in short range combats. In order to achieve the guidance for high flight and rotary projectile, the research group which my tutor is in proposed a guided technology for "maneuvering ammunition" with high flight and rotary based on the real time closed-loop fire control system. The "maneuvering ammunition" doesn't require advanced intelligent materials, controls the elevation by jetting gas, and controls the azimuth by adjusting structure.Assuming not the shape of projectile body but the mass distribution of warhead to be adjusted, this paper makes use of simulation to study the impacts on flight stability and the elevation and azimuth of warhead by the variation of polar moment of inertia and equator moment of inertia. In other words, it is the feasibility analysis for guiding high flight and rotary projectile by the variation of mass distribution of warhead.Simulation shows that adjusting the polar moment of inertia, by moving the centre of mass of warhead along the projectile shaft, can be used for azimuth guidance, since it has a remarkable effect on the azimuth correction, while equator moment of inertia shows little impact on the azimuth correction. It is necessary to use other methods such as jetting gas to control the elevation, since either polar moment of inertia or equator moment of inertia has little effects on the elevation correction and can be neglected. In this situation, azimuth guidance by adjusting polar moment of inertia is at least unidirectional decoupled with respect to the control of elevation.
