In High Power Microwave(HPM) technology, Tesla transformer is used as a significant component in Relativistic Electron Beam Accelerator, which can be easily attainable of repetitive frequency. In order to improve Tesla transformer's stability and reliability, research based on pulse voltage distribution in tapered winding becomes significant.The operating principle and characteristic parameter's effect on output in Tesla transformer was investigated. Pulse voltage distribution in tapered winding was studied by both calculation and experiment, the originality innovation lies as following:1. Multi-conductor transmission line(MTL) model was created to analyse Tesla transformer's tapered secondary winding, distributed parameter was obtained by the software ANSYS. A new formula to calculate MTL model's time domain equations was deduced.2. Experiments were carried on air-cored,intrinsic-cored and intrinsic-extrinsic-cored tapered winding to study the pulse voltage distribution under different width, the regularity was then summarized. Numerical simulation in air-cored tapered winding was agreeable to the result of experiment. Equivalent chain-circuit was established by MTL theory, the frequency characteristics and resonance rationale was studied. The phenomenon of overvoltage and reverse voltage was explained.3. The integral construction used on actual device was scaled down to build up experimental platform for the study of pulse voltage distribution in tapered winding while PFL's discharge, voltage distribution in PFL was also calculated. Three kinds of optimization structure, such as parallel coils in the head,parallel coils in the end and shading ring were used in tapered winding and that was testified by experiments. The results indicate that the dangerous voltage gradient guiding breakdown probably appears in head of tapered winding, structural winding of parallel coils in the head decrease the interturn voltage in head of winding remarkably and parallel coils in the end decrease the interturn voltage in end of winding.Structural winding of parallel coils in the head, which can solve the problem of insulation puncture is used in Tesla transformer of pulsed electron accelerator CHP01. The pulsed electron accelerator attains stable operation under repetitive frequency with a output of~1.15MV,~100Hz frequency in Tesla transformer.
