Pipeline gravity transportation system is widely used in mines with backfill mining methods, but the system is usually designed by empirical means due to uncertainty of influencing factors. Computer simulation technology was introduced in this paper, in order to realize optimum choice of pipeline gravity transportation system in Longshou Mine, Jinchuan Group, Gansu province, China.Firstly, flow feature of solid-liquid two-phase fluid in pipeline and hydraulic calculation approaches of pipeline gravity transportation was analyzed and evaluated based on the summarization of gravity flow theory and application in China and abroad, which supplied an important base for application of computer simulation technology in pipeline gravity transportation system.Secondly, wear mechanism of backfill pipe was clarified and detailed technical measures deducing wear amount of pipe was suggested , and introduced the case of backfill materials and pipeline gravity transportation system in Longshou Mine.Thirdly, numerical model of pipeline gravity transportation system in Longshou Mine was established and pipeline gravity transportation process was simulated dynamically using FLOW-3D soft. Numerical simulation also gave key technical parameters of pipeline gravity transportation such as velocity and flow rate of backfill slurry as well as pressures to pipe wall. It was indicated that simulation results were identical to engineering practice of backfill system.Finally, a visual soft was programmed in order to overcome poor function of post treatment program existing in FL0W-3D soft. The correction improved effect of dynamic simulation technology of pipeline gravity transportation.Application of computer simulation for pipeline gravity transportation has not been reported moth in China and abroad. This work gives an pre-evaluation method for design of pipeline gravity transportation. Researching method and results not only has an important academic and economic value but also supply a technical support for backfilling works.
