The phenomenon of SSR (subsynchronous resonance) threatens the stability of power system and limits its development. Based on the factual TCSC (thyristor controlled series compensation) project, this thesis models the TCSC power system, and analyzes the effect of TCSC on damping SSR thoroughly.Firstly, the basic configurations, basic principle, operating modes and operating characteristics of TCSC are introduced in this thesis, then, it analyzes the relationship between the basic frequency impedance of TCSC and the fire angle. Moreover, the phenomenon of SSR and the mechanism of damping SSR with TCSC are explained in this thesis.In order to analyze the effect of damping SSR by TCSC, this thesis establishes the model of TCSC power system, also, the specific parameters of generators, transformers, transmit lines, TCSC and trigger are designed . This thesis pays more attention to design the parameters of TCSC, gets the value of capacitor by calculation, and compares the values of reactor in different modes by simulation.Based on that, the effect of TCSC on damping SSR is studied. Firstly, this thesis studies the effect of damping the 20HZ and 30HZ SSR with FSC. The results show that the capability of FSC to damp SSR is not so good. Then, regarding the compensation rate as a constant, we divide the capacitor into two parts: TCSC and FSC, and construct the model of TCSC+FSC power system of damping SSR. Finally, this thesis further discusses the capability of damping various SSR with TCSC+FSC and the characteristic of TCSC+FSC on damping SSR with various firing angles. From the results, we can make a conclusion that the TCSC+FSC power system can damp the SSR effectively.All the results will contribute a lot to the manufacture and application of TCSC, and promote the studies and development of FACTS (flexible AC transmission systems) in China.
