With the enhancement of China's comprehensive national strength as well as the accumulation of technology in space program, Manned Space Program has made a mighty advance with steady steps. The optical system that is designed will be used to observe activity of astronauts outside orbit modules during "ShenZhouâ…¦"mission. It is decided that optical system of this camera device should be a system with large field of view and low distortion. After carefully thought over the space environment, optical system is successfully designed. The veiling glare index of optical system is calculated according to features of the camera device's application environment ultimately.During the course of optical system design, we pay much attention to the space environment especially low earth orbit environment, such as space radiation, temperature and ambient pressure, because these factors have much influence on optical system. Then, this paper firstly analyzed influence caused by space radiation, temperature, ambient pressure, and introduced relevant compensatory techniques. Secondly, according to characteristics of designed system, optical material and mechanical material is carefully chosen. Then, an evaluation of image quality is done both in CODE V and image quality in practices, it is seen that this optical system is insensitive to the changeable space environment. In other words, it is proved that the design is reasonable.In addition, the paper analyzed stray light in optical system. According to the application environment of optical system, there are no the brightest objects appearing in the FOV of optical system, and the first lens has a large convex, the veiling glare index of optical system is calculated in the end.
