Power management has become more and more important while portable electronic products become more and more popular. Scholars at home and abroad are care about how to make electronic products work highly efficient and work as long as we can. This paper focuses on digital control method and has designed a multi-mode digital power management chip which includes PWM PFM and DSM. This chip can maintain high efficiency and response speed while the load current varies from a large range from 0 to 500mA.The PWM/PFM/DSM digital dc-dc control chip was designed based on the Chartered 0.35μm 3.3V/5V 2P4M CMOS process, which includes such modules as follows : reference, ADC, digital modulators, digital PID compensator, mode switch circuit, sense & protect circuits, driver and power MOSFET.Have finished the modeling and simulation of the system by Matlab, digital designs have been verified by FPGA and the close-loop simulation was finished by Ultrasim. The result indicates the controller IC can operate at the frequency of 2MHz and convert the supply voltage 2-5V to 1.1-1,85V. The actual output is controlled by a 5-bit VID and the start-up time is less than 10mS. The DPWM module in the digital modulators has finished taped out and test. The controller IC has finished layout design and verify, now the chip is being taped out by Chartered.
