This thesis studied the approach of security region and its on-line application in power system security analysis, focus on applying the security region approach on power system steady-state security analysis and on-line security monitoring. The security region approach is considered more proper than the traditional "point-wise" approach for on-line security monitoring of power system. But in order to keep the accuracy acceptable while saving more time, we need to reduce the dimensionality of the security region, develop the visual monitoring tool with proper accuracy. This thesis presents the definition and characters of key transmission section, and presents the dynamic search arithmetic of key transmission section with the use of branch outage distribution coefficient and path matrix of the directed graph based on the elements parameters, topological structure and real-time power flow of the networks. Then according to the analysis of the mathematical model of steady-state security region, this thesis presents the method for reducing the dimensionality of the steady-state security region and the visualization approach based on the dynamic zoning using key transmission section. In such way, the steady-state security region is more practical in transmission section on-line security monitoring. With these approaches presented, this thesis presents the structure design of the on-line security monitoring software and the cooperating approach with the fault diagnosis expert system. The main functional modules are programmed by Matlab. The reasonableness and validity of the proposed methods have been proven by the test results of the IEEE 39-bus testing system.
