China is a vast country, the western, central and eastern energy distribution and supply and demand imbalances, and structural differences and geographical disparities of the power of all the major regional network and other factors, which all show that the realization of interconnected network have tremendous economic and social benefits. With the development of the Three Gorges Power Station and the western and northern power base, China began to implement strategic project of "transmission of the power from west to east" and national interconnected network, in the year 2005 a national inter-regional interconnected network has been formed. In the network interconnection process, due to large amount of electric power transmission overlong distance, the problem of the weak transmission capacity of the large-scale power system is more notable. In such circumstances, HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current Transmission) and FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) are using more and more, which to some extent meet requirements of large amount of electric power transmission overlong distance and enhancement of the stability of power system security. With HVDC project putting into use and the wider using of FACTS, effects of these devices on dynamic stability and how to use its fast response to improve system stability have become increasingly prominent issue. Therefore, it's important to analyze the small-signal stability of the hybrid AC/DC power system containing FACTS controllers. This thesis studies the models and algorithms of the small-signal stability analysis of HVDC and FACTS controllers (primarily Static Var Compensator and Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitor). On the basis of the software PSD-SSAP which was developed by China Electric Power Research Institute, a small-signal stability software for HVDC and FACTS controllers is developed. Main contents of this thesis are as follows.1. Through the collection and research of the important literature which papers related to, give a systematic overview including basic theory and methods of small-signal stability analysis, highlights of eigenvalue calculation methods used by PSD-SSAP.2. On the basic of the analysis of the principles and applications of SVC and TCSC, the small-signal models of SVC and TCSC are studied. Studying the small-signal stability analysis methods of the existing software PSD-SSAP, a small-signal stability analysis algorithm of SVC and TCSC is built on implicitly restarted Arnoldi algorithm..3. Small-signal models of HVDC systems and their control systems are studied in this thesis. Models of HVDC systems and their control systems are established, which are precise enough in small-signal analysis and the parameters are easy to obtain.4. The software was developed on models and algorithm studied above. And its correctness is verified by the calculation of actual power system.
