As the the problem of ageing of the global population is getting severe, the industry of electric scooter for the aged had been developing rapidly. It is a meaningful and promising work to develop a new type of electric scooter, which is simple in structure, convenient in control, reliable in safety and cost-effective. The development of drive control system is the hardcore in the process of electric scooter design.This thesis designed and developed a reliable drive control system based on the in-depth analysis of the drive control problem. The central research contents are as follows:Firstly,the technology of electric scooter was analyzed and researched.And then,the mathematical model and the strategy of the differential steering which is used in the new protype of the electric scooter were established.Secondly, PIC18F87J10 ,which is produced by Microchip Corporation, was used as the core of the control system, and a series of circuits were desiged, such as speed signal detecting circuit, DC motor dirving circuit, power converting and sampling circuit,current detecting circuit, etc, which are fully depend on the advantages of PIC18F87J10, like low cost, abundant functions and strong operating ability, which can simplifie the circuit, enhance the reliability and reduce the cost of the control system.Functions and strong operating ability,which simplifies the circuit,enhances the reliability and reduces the cost of the control system.Thirdly, programs for the hardwares were composed. The programs were designed as different modules, which can enhance its readability. The accomplished modules are RS232 interrupt modules, differential steering modules, over current protection modules, motor speed control modules, etc.Finally, the control system was debuged and the results were analyzed. The results indicated that the system is effective. All of these researches and practices got a perfect result and achieved the anticipated goals; meanwhile the research had made a good foundation for the research and development of the new electric scooter in future.
