| The calculation of earth pressure is an old aged but often new issue. Classical earth pressure theories annunciated by Coulomb and Rankine have been widely used in calculation of liner retaining wall because of its simple calculation and clear mechanics concept. But calculation theory and methods of active bulk-solid pressure about the curvy wall is rare.In fact, the application of curvy wall is not uncommon in practical engineering. So it is necessary to study the side pressure distribution of dispersion materials in curvy wall.According to the Coulomb's earth pressure theory, a new type of mechanical model is adopted. Based on wedge translation failure mechanism and limit equilibrium method, considering the normal force distribution on the side of the wedge, a new formula of granular particles lateral pressure in curvy wall is obtained.Big diameter squat silo is a special type of curvy wall. Take the soils for example, the application of the calculation method proposed by this paper in practical engineering is discussed. The lateral pressure formula for squat silos is obtained under various working conditions. The results agree with that of the full-size silo experiment better than the Rankine theory and other theories. It is shows that the Rankine theory may overestimate the pressure, and other theories may underestimate the pressure or lack of computational Stability.Thorough the comparison, it is showed that this method is more perfect in theory and the result is more close to the experimental data.In order to compare with the test data, and predict some conditions without test data, the finite element software FLAC was used to simulate the bin and present some data. |
