With the rapid development of Ultra High Voltage (UHV), which contribut to the optimization of stat grid, however, a series of environment problems are generated , technically surface elctric field of transmission lines is the main factor. Several methods to calculate the conductor surface electric field are compared, and the finit elment method (FEM) is selected as the best method. Based on the program of FEM, many factors to influence the conductor surface electric field are analyzed. the optimal configuration of conductors is obtained,by caculating surface elctric field of smooth conductors of UHVAC,UHVDC,AC-DC mixed transmission lines. Based on ANSYS, the surface electric field of stranded wire is calculated ,compared with smooth conductors ,the former is over 20% greater than the latter.It should be adequately considered that the patterns will contribute to the maximum values of electric field intensity when twisted wires are selected in transmission lines.
