| This paper take the form and constitute the woodcarvings of Huizhou residences (Huizhou woodcarving) as an entry point, which is respectively discussed on the material, pattern and composition of Huizhou woodcarvings. On this basis, this paper then dedicates to reveal the folklore and aesthetic attribute of Huizhou woodcarvings, and to explore the values of them.This paper argues that Huizhou woodcarvings play as double roles as both the decorative parts of Residences and actual building components which serve the folk life of Huizhou. As a result, they are on one hand kinds of folkways and on the other hand kinds of aesthetic objects, to which Huizhou folk are the aesthetic subjects. Premise in this knowledge, the aesthetic attributes of Woodcarving is a special kind of folk aesthetic attributes, you must take to the living field, or we can say, folk aesthetic context in order to successfully reveal that folk aesthetic attributes. It is along this line, this paper argues, Huizhou woodcarvings have three attributes, which are utilitarian aesthetic, folk symbolic, signifying ambiguity and multiplicity.And then, following the above idea, the paper finally points out the values of Huizhou woodcarvings, which are double values corresponding to the folk aesthetic value of the attributes. That is, the value both in folklore and aesthetics. This article introduces the concept of space to determine that Huizhou woodcarvings are building components, and only in the room of Huizhou folk residences, they just can abundantly show the double value of themselves. So the paper explained the performance of the double values of Huizhou woodcarvings, combining the spatial layout of Huizhou folk residence. |
