Sandstone is an ideal architectural decorative material, because of its natural nature, very low radioactivity, with yellow, red, blue, purple and other natural colors and a variety of beautiful patterns. However, high porosity, larger water absorption, lower strength,poor wear resistance and poor resistance to hygroscopicity and other defects of sandstone, easily lead to all kinds of stone disease and limited the use of sandstone. Therefore, in order to overcome its own shortcomings, improve its performance, to make wider use of sandstone to the field of architectural decoration, developing appropriate treatment agents for protective treatment of sandstone, has a high practical value.In this paper, using a wider yellow sandstone as the research object, use water-based sodium silicate inorganic materials based on material obtained as a treatment agent on the yellow sandstone protective treatment, results show that: the treated yellow sandstone compression strength increased by 9.6%, wear improved by 45.13%, moisture resistance strength increased 14.81%, yellow sandstone treated a certain way to improve performance. As the sodium silicate in the process will be stored at continuous occurrence of aging, severely reducing its performance, requires that it be modified to eliminate and prevent aging, enhance its yellow sandstone of the protective treatment effect. This article first studied the physical modification and the chemical modification of the program to protection on the performance of yellow sandstone.In physical modification: yellow sandstone ultrasonic treatment can improve the compression strength, abrasion resistance and resistance to moisture absorption intensity; although microwave heating has little effect on yellow sandstone, but it can greatly shorten the processing time.In chemical modification: sodium silicate were added to sodium borate, sodium tripolyphosphate, polyacrylamide and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate, have improved to varying degrees, deal with agents on the protective effect of yellow sandstone, chemical modification of the best single factor dosage was 2.5% sodium borate, sodium tripolyphosphate was 2% polyacrylamide 0.2%, 0.4% sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate. This dosage was designed based on the A, B, C, D four kinds of composite modified formula, experimental results show that: D formula to improve the compression strength of yellow sandstone, improve wear resistance and improve resistance to moisture absorption, the better than the other three formulations.After comprehensive analysis of physical modification and chemical modification ,to further improve the performance of yellow sandstone, the paper proposed the physical-chemical modification of the programs combined, and designed 1 and 2,two kinds of joint modification programs study. Experiments show that: on the 2nd yellow sandstone protection programs on the treatment effect better than the 1st program, the program processed by the 2nd yellow sandstone porosity decreased 23.03%, 34.2% lower water absorption, wear resistance increased 52.73%, compression strength increased by 33.4%, anti-moisture strength increased 31.63%. Finally, the use of infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy of the 2 programs treated yellow sandstone were detected and analyzed,proved the mechanism and effect of modification.
