Armyworm Endogenous Protective Enzyme Activities (lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

The endogenous enzymes of protective system includingsuperoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT)were found to exist in the larvae of Mythmina separata Walker. Theactivities of the three protective enzymes were surveyed in the insect andthe EST isozyme in it was analysized by using the technique of verticalslab polyacry 1amide gel electrophoresis. After applying three kinds ofOps, two kinds of Carbs and a kind of Pyres to the larvae, the activitiesof the three protective enzymes showed different changes, and the ESTisozyme in it was inhibited in different degrees. The results are as fol-lows:1. The levels of SOD. CAT and POD activity of the larvae areclose1y correlated with the instars. The activity of SOD reduces as theinstar increases. The CAT activity increases as the instar rises. After ap-plying insecticides to the larvae, the 1evels of SOD and CAT activitywere found to be higher than that of the contro1, but the 1evel of PODactivity was found to be lower than that of the control. The SOD andCAT activities are enhanced gradually with the degree of poisoning, butdeclined rapidly near death.
