The Castanopsis carlesii community is one of the most important vegetation types in the forest ecological system of Xiwang Mountainous area and Doupeng Mountainous area. This paper aims at studying the characters, structures, types, dynamics, utilization and protection of the Castanopsis carlesii community in qualitative and quantitative analysis (such as importance value, correlation analysis between tree-age and breast-high diameter, Simpson index, polar ordination). All results indicate:(1) The nature of the community is midsubtropical mountainous ever-green broad-leaf forest. The population's importance value is 163.54, which presents a picture of relatively pure forest.(2) Both Doupeng Mountain flora and Xiwang Mountain flora have transitional character, and their comparability is 43.7%.(3) Castanopsis carlesii population is at rising stage.(4) Diameter class-Stem-number curve presents approximately normal school.(5) The mathematic model (regression equation) about age (y) and diameter (x) of Castanopsis carlesii'. y=6.62+0.67x.(6) The structure of Castanopsis carlesii community is simpler, and difference in forest layers is no conspicuous; Species is not rich inside Castanpsis carlesii community; Castanpsis carlesii population tents to relatively same age, except for few old trees. All these show this community is in sub-climax stage.(7) In view of its minor distribution area in China, the severe destruction of the vegetation in Xiwang Mountain and Doupeng Mountain, and its important economic value, this paper attempts to draw attention of the departments concerned to the preservation and utilization of the vegetation in these areas.
