Objective: Investigate the current contraceptive status of currently married women of reproductive age in Xinjiang Production and Construction Crops, in order to carry out the"informed choice", improve efficiency of contraception, and then promote the productive health. Methods: This study takes hierarchical cluster, the four stages, probability of random sampling method. The sample taken from 8 divisions, 27 corps, 135 companies, includes a total of 6,812 women of reproductive age. Face-to-face interview is taken to collect information. We use SPSS13.0 statistical packages, single factor analysis using Chi-square test, t-test, multiple factor analysis using non-conditional logistic regression analysis and liner regression analysis.Results: 1.The sample's number is 6,812, the average age is 36.58±6.144 years old, 24.53% women of city and 74.47% women of village; 88.83% women of the Han and 11.17% women of the Minority. 2. The women's contraceptive prevalence rate is 86.67%, and the top 3 contraceptive methods were IUD(51.95%), condom(21.32%) and female sterilization(17.56%). The proportion of methods decided by couples themselves is 75.02%, 15.14% by professionals and 7.42% by management staffs. In city women's access to contraceptives through commercial channels account for 33.28% (18.58% ,in village). Women have surgery at the division, crop, and company level agencies are 23.82%, 59.45%, 6.63%. Women's full access to contraceptive methods free of charge ratio is of 50.51%, all at their own expense ratio of 41.44%. Free use of IUD ratio is 38.49%, all at their own expense ratio is 52.19%. The ratio of follow-up after surgery is 22.22%. Satisfied with the method is account for 95.09%. In 2006, in the use of intrauterine device among women, 42 percent have access the initiative service. 3. 49.70% of the married women have the experience of abortion. 51.05% was happened because of not use any contraceptive method, 41.83% was because of failure of contraception. The top three methods are IUD (42.16%), condom (28.11%), oral contraceptives (20.54%). The top 3 reasons for contraceptive failure are central displacement, broken condom, missing oral contraceptive. 4. The awareness rate of IUD is the most high(96.62%), and then the female sterilization and condom. The rate of EC awareness is 48.03%.Conclusion: 1. The contraceptive prevalence rate is higher than the national level.2. The main methods women used are long-termed, such as IUD, female sterilization, and at the same time showing a wide range of characteristics, the utilization rate of condoms was significantly higher than the national average. 3. There is equivalent proportion of women choosing contraceptive by themselves. They get methods mainly from medical department. The surgeries are mainly concentrated in large corporations and higher-level institutions, the proportion of follow-up service to post-operative is lower.4. About half of the women can obtain contraceptives free of charge, and have satisfaction. In 2006, less than half of women accepted the service of inspecting IUD.5.Higher incidence of abortion, not contraception and contraceptive failure are the main reason. 6.The women's knowledge level of contraceptive is better, but the awareness rate of EC is lower. Should be further strengthen the education. Provide many types of high quality and effective contraceptive methods, strengthen the follow-up, with a view to reducing abortion rates and promote reproductive health.
