ObjectiveThe aim of the study was to investigate the effect of ethanol using by neurolytic celiac plexus block (NCPB) on the Bispectral index (BIS) during anaesthesia with propofol and remifentanil.MethodsThirty-six patients, ASAⅠ~Ⅲ, undergoing pancreatic cancer surgery were studied. Patients were maintained with propofol(6~9 mg·kg–1·h–1) and remifentanil(0.1~0.3ug·kg–1·min–1) to keep the BIS between 38 and 50. After 20min of stable anaesthesia , the subjects in control group were treated with palliative operation, while patients in ethanol group were employed NCPB at the same time. BIS values, mean arterial pressure(MAP) ,heart ate( HR) were recorded 5minutes before the injection and one, five, fifteen, twenty five, thirty five, forty five minutes after that. In control group,ResultsThere was no significant change in BIS, hemodynamic variables during the observation in the control group. In ethanol group BIS and MAP decreased 15minutes after injection. No significant changes in HR were noted throughout the observation. There was no significant difference in the preinjection time value between groupsConclusionEthanol used in the operation of NCPB is additive to the anesthesia depth during the anaesthesia of propofol and remifentanil.
