Background:Occupational population is valuable resource with the most vitality,most creativity and most productivity in humane society.It is shown that occupational population accounts for 50%of world population in WHO reports,they are producers of social wealth and the contributor of social and economic development,but their health and safety status is major concern,in particular in China undergoing rapidly economic transformation,their health and safety is full of unprecedented challenges.Workplace health promotion is defined as combination of enterprise management strategy,worker mobilization,health education and health service to improve work environment and lifestyle for a worker,control health risk and reduce the rate of disease,disability and absence from duty with the aim to promote the worker's health, improve occupational life quality and promote the sustainable economic development through comprehensive interventions.At the enterprise level,workplace health promotion can improve work environment,reduce the rate of absence from duty, decrease incidence of occupational accident and disability,enhance the enterprise image,lead to humane resource management improvement and enhance productivity, while it can enable individual to raise health awareness and motivation,improve individual health status and increase the job satisfaction among workers at individual level.The study was conducted to collect baseline data of enterprise engaging in workplace health promotion program and provide support for further intervention with combination of the method of guide for health promotion workplace and workplace health promotion practice in China.Objective:To investigate the condition of occupational hazards and occupational health management in the enterprises;to survey the condition of occupational health and health knowledge understanding,demand,healthy behavior and lifestyle, prevalence of stress at work and musculoskeletal pain or discomfort among workers in the enterprises,and analyze its contributors;to comprehensively analyze workplace health promotion baseline data with hope to provide basis for the intervention in workplace health promotion programme.Method:Using a cross-sectional study,2575 workers selected with the cluster sampling in 10 enterprises were interviewed with the uniform worker questionnaire, including:general information,condition of stress at work and ergonomics, understanding status of occupational health knowledge and health knowledge, lifestyle and health knowledge demand.Finally,2421 valid questionnaires were collected.At the same time,the 10 enterprises were interviewed with the uniform enterprise questionnaire,including:enterprise general information,status of occupational health management and health education,ways of occupational hazard notification,the measures of occupational hazard prevention and control. Questionnaire data was inputted into the computer with Epidata3.0 software and analyzed with SAS9.0 software.Main results:1.All of 10 enterprises had different occupational hazards to some extent,the exposure rate to occupational hazard is from 6.6%to 48.3%,averagely 21.9%.All enterprises in all 7 industries had enough occupational health management measures, and conducted occupational health knowledge and health knowledge training with full content,had occupational hazard notification through several ways,including: pre-work training,warning symbol and instruction fbr occupational hazard,contract notification and notification card for highly toxic good,had comprehensive measures of occupational hazard prevention and control.2.27.1%of participants didn't know about the Code of Occupational Disease Prevention and Control,66%knew about a little,6.6%fully understood.The understanding rates of occupational health knowledge and health knowledge,which ranked from high to low,were the conception of health,89.5%,the conception of occupational disease,77.4%,the conception of hypertension,69.5%,prevention measures of hypertension and coronary heart disease,44%,prevention measures of AIDS,42.4%and prevention measures of occupational disease,5.2%.The significant influencing factors of occupational health and health knowledge were gender,age, education,general health condition,unmarried and monthly income.3.It is shown that 41.4%of the participants had high level of stress at work,50.2% with middle level of stress at work.The main contributors of stress at work were unmarried,education,age,monthly income,too much intervention form a superior, gender,too much work intensity,general health condition,too much requirement from a superior and bad health condition.4.The prevalence of musculoskeletal pain or discomfort in recent one year was 51.1%.5.In the behavior field,33.3%of the participants smoked,34.4%drunk,54.2% attended physical activity,and 92%had the habit of having breakfast.The significant contributors of behavior were gender,age,unmarried,divorced,education,inadequate training content and adequate training content.6.The top 4 safety and health knowledge and occupational health knowledge among participants were the symptom and prevention of occupational disease and work-related disease,occupational hazard factor and its hazard,safety and health working environment and alleviating stress at work,and the demand increased with the education increasing.Conclusion:Although participant enterprises had occupational hazard to some extent,they established enough occupational management measures,conducted training on occupational health and health knowledge with full content,and had occupational hazard notification through several ways and comprehensive measures of occupational hazard prevention and control.Participants had poor occupational health knowledge and health knowledge,high level of stress at work,high prevalence of musculoskeletal pain or discomfort and unhealthy lifestyle,but had high demand for occupational health service,occupational health and health knowledge,whose major contributor is education.Therefore,it is suggested that effective intervention measures should be conducted toward those areas.
