Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of different concentration of Oculentum MuAn(OMA) against experimental herpes simplex keratitis (HSK) in rabbits. Methods:The infected rabbits with HSK were divided into four groups. The rabbits were given Oculentum I (5%OMAN-3%ACV+5%Honey+Vehicle)andⅡ(10%OMA-3%ACV+10%Honey+Vehicle) in the tested groups. The rabbits were given Oculentum IV (3%ACV) and V (Vehicle) in the contol group. The severity of HSK was evaluated by slit-lamp examinations and was scored. Virus in the tear film and conjuctival sac were isolated and TCID50 (tissue culture infective dose) were calculated. Results:In the teartment the reduction in the severity of HSK in 5%OMA group was lower than that in 3% ACV ointment group, lower titers in the fastigium. There was statistical significance between them (P<0.05).There was no statistical significance between the 10%OMA groups and 3% ACV ointment group (P>0.05).Conclusion:5%,10%OMA had good effect on HSK, while 5%OMA was more effective than 3%ACV ointment. |
