Pragmatic Functions Of The Conjunctional Auxiliary Word "keredomo"

This thesis mainly concerns the Pragmatic function of the conjunctional auxiliary word"keredomo"especially on the exposition of the politeness function and its Pragmatic characteristic. This research is very significant for the understanding of discourse information and the improvement of conversation efficiency.The conjunctional auxiliary word"keredomo"has five basic functions in the discourse as follows:1 advanced notice function 2,information-gathering conversion function 3. dialog control function 4.the self rectification function of the word"keredomo"5. limited subject function. Meanwhile these functions come into play in the practice and make"keredomo"a unique pragmatic function, namely the politeness function.The politeness function of"keredomo"is mainly manifested in four aspects: proposing implied requirement, avoiding taboo, expressing opposite information and respecting the information. Respecting information means both respect other's confidence and avoid monopolizing the information. From the illocutionary force aspect, The politeness of"keredomo"is profoundly manifested in avoiding unnecessary honorifics and repressing one's willingness.At the same time, the word"keredomo"indicating politeness function also has its own special properties.By the analysis of Pragmatic function mentioned above, it tries to further prove and summarize the characteristic of the conjunctional auxiliary word"keredomo"which expresses the politeness namely the characteristic of Relevancy and self-protection, and by which ease the burden of listener so that realize the expression of politeness, while expressing politeness not only preserve the other's positive face but also protect one's own negative face.Based on the study of pragmatic functions of"keredomo", we understand:Understanding the Pragmatic characteristic of"keredomo"thoroughly will make us communicate with Japanese more effectively and better understand the other party's real intention. Secondly,the series of pragmatic functions are not independent. May be some functions come into effects at the same time in a sentence.
