since 1993, Association of American Colleges and Universities and the Graduate School Committee co-sponsored the " Preparing Future Faculty " project (PFF), according to the fact that it is difficult to make the doctoral education adapt to the requirements of new teachers in University. This project is based on doctoral education, with teacher education in colleges and universities for the point, covering a number of professional disciplines, which has played an important role in training college teachers, made a new attempt at the development of college teacher education, and made a lot of beneficial to try and explore on how to reform doctoral education, help people who interested in higher education of doctoral students to engage in how to better adapt to the new college system, students need and standards for all aspects of work have. It has accumulated a lot of valuable experience with the reference value during the past 10 years'organization and implementation. In China there are many aspects remain to be improved on college teacher education, especially on its pre-service training. This paper is hoped to provide some reference and learning to strengthen and improve college teacher education by introducing and researching the PFF.This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduces the background of PFF in two ways. Both are the conflicting of doctoral education and social needs and the possibility of PFF coming out. Chapter two analyzes the goals, stages of development and characteristics of PFF. Chapter three discusses the implementation and the role of PFF. Chapter four is the inspiration from PFF to improve our college teacher education.
