| How to greatly improve scientific literacy of the general public has been one of the priorities for governments at all levels. This research paper is to investigate the status of scientific literacy of Kunming rural population, and analyze its restrictive factors.It is based on a systematic review over related references and researches, and a summary of scientific literacy theories at home and abroad. Its framework is built on previous studies. The research adopts empirical method and takes Kunming rural population as the research object. The following conclusion is drawn upon after a comprehensive analysis of 935 samples.1. 0.65% of Kunming rural population is equipped with basic scientific literacy, among whom women do better than men, young people do better than the old ones, and educated ones do better than the less educated ones.2. Rural population in Kunming has very limited understanding about scientific research methods. Some of them remain superstitious, which becomes as the main factor that contributes to this low public scientific literacy in Kunming rural areas.3. TV, newspaper and magazines, and face-to-face exchanges are the main sources that the rural public in Kunming acquires scientific information, among which information on agricultural development, health care, and disaster prevention and relief are most popular.4. Teachers, doctors and scientists are the careers that hold the highest prestige among rural public in Kunming. Most of the rural population is supportive towards scientific development.5. Education, economy, politics and culture are the major factors that affect scientific literacy of rural population in Kunming.According to result of the empirical research, this paper proposes suggestion on how to advance scientific literacy of rural population in Kunming from the prospective of the government. |
