As the competition is getting dramatic fierce, companies make every effort and use various means to enhance their productivity, product quality, reduce lead time and cost to get competitive advantage. ZK is a quality-leading manufacturer of semiconductor packaging materials, its production strictly follows ISO/TS16949 quality management system requirements and all related operations have been standardized to ensure a stable high quality products and on time delivery. However ZK has a comparative disadvantage in terms of costs when it tries to invade the market of main land China, so it is critical for ZK how to further enhance the productivity and reduce the operational cost. This thesis tries to study how to reduce the production cost (shorten the operation lead time, reduce the scrap) through productivity improvement, so we introduce the typical product defect slug mark that is the main yield loss and study how to reduce slug mark is very urgent for ZK. Inspirited by Frederick Winslow Taylor's scientific management as well as Frank Bunker Gilbreth's motion study, and connecting with ZK's operational practice, we select the typical operation in ZK– slug mark lapping as the example, from the different result of daily work under standard operations to study how to improve the productivity through work measurement and the quantification of benchmark work, then upgrade the work instruction so that enhance the whole team's efficiency.
