The technology of the functional magnetic resonance, developed in the near twenty years, enables people to study, without any damage, how normal people's brains actually work and provides with more information about the structure and function of human being's brain. The occurrence of event related fMRI is a revolutionary progress. It provides us a new effective method of studying advanced function of human brain. .The main content of this thesis is event related fMRI and its data processing. The emphasises of this thesis are as follows:(1) Detail with the characteristics of event related fMRI and the predominance of event related design compares to block design.(2) Expound the theory of using deconvolution analyzing time series datas of event related fMRI.(3) Illustrate the predominance of event related design with a study on the simple and complex finger tapping for motor activation. The experiment design is based on event related design. The method of its data process is deconvolution. This thesis is composed of four chapters, except the introduction which gives a brief introduction to the significance of studying brain's functions, the characteristics of the event related fMRI,as well as the feasibility of using fMRI to study the brain's functions.Chapter One discusses the theoretical base and feasibility of using fMRI to study the brain's functions, and concludes the study methods and the points for attention in the experiment procedure.Chapter Two details with event related fMRI and its characteristics.Chapter Three is the theoretical part of using deconvolution analyzing time series datas of event related fMRI. It makes use of part theories of lineal system, lineal regression and statistics.Chapter Four is a study on the simple and complex finger tapping for motor activation. This is a application of event related fMRI. It realizes the randomization of input task stimulus. It separates motor brain activations of four different tasks of finger tapping and gives a contrast. The elementary results in this experiment illustrates the merits of event related design.
