During the clinical and scientific research of cell genetics, the analysis of chromosome is an important task. Due to the breakthrough of stained technology in 1970s, the band-pattern of chromosome provides material visual information for cytogeneticist, then analyses the composition of genome in a cell and measures the features of the equipments for karyotyping.In order to meet the demands of clinical hospital, a chromosome analysis system based on PC is developed. With its help, doctors can transform an original chromosome micrograph to an orderly classified chromosome picture accurately, expediently and rapidly. Thus, the state of an illness and the pathogeny can be found out with the inspection on chromosomes. The system provides a set of functions such as micrograph capture, picture patching, histogram stretching, chromosome incision, chromosome classification and result saving, which makes the work on the chromosome information creation and management become very easy. As abates the workload of the doctors, and ensures the veracity of analysis at the same time, it supports two operation ways: automatic analysis and manual assistant. As for object marking, it uses two formats: object subjection relation graph and boundary chain-code; As for chromosome incising, it uses boundary-character analysis and Fourier gradual detection; it uses the crossing detection based on medial axis chain-code to measure the chromosomes, and it uses the imitate geometry classifier based on transcendental knowledge as the method on automatic classifying the chromosomes. The research algorithm of the automatic analysis is the emphases of this paper.The advantage of this system is its higher automation and its better accuracy for classification. A lot of clinical tests have proved that this system can meet the clinical needs completely and has been put into clinical practice.
