Objectives: To derive a formula for ultrasonographic estimated pyloric volume based on a hypothesis of pyloric volume, and to test its accurary and its clinic feasibility. Methods: Deriving a cylinder formula for pyloric volume measure with an ultrasonic based on a hypothesis of pyloric volume: PV=π·PL·MT·(PD-MT).outside body, The comparison between the pyloric volume of apart from 30 rabbit measured and the pyloric volume on exchanging with water to test its accurary; inside body, comparison between pyloric measured pre-surgery and pyloric measure at the time surgery in 30 HPS patients to test clinic feasibility.Results:(1) The error of pyloric volume measurements with B-US:outside body test, absolute error,-1.06ml±0.38ml(range,-0.45ml~1.75ml),relative error,-19.39﹪±4.84﹪(range,-10.2﹪~-3﹪)。Inside body test, absolute error,-0.18ml±0.60ml(range,-0.93ml~0.65ml),relative error,-3.36﹪±14.20﹪(range,-30.5﹪~23.5﹪).(2) There was a significant correlation between measurement volume outside body test (r=0.891, P<0.05; Vmeasure=0.422+ 0.89Vtrue) or inside body test(r=0.947, P<0.05; VUS=0.082+ 0.95Vsurgery)and the pyloric true volume. Conclusions: The ultarsound measuring cylinder formula PV=π·PL·MT·(PD-MT) is an accurate, easily-performed and highly -duplicated methods for the pyloric volume. Therefore , it is valuable in clinical practice.
