OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness of two kinds of operation which trans intra-dual or extra-dual by pterional approach. METHODS: we retrospectively analyze 51 patients with traumatic optic nerve injury between 1986-2002.. ALL these patients received surgical treatment. Including: intra-dural: 22; extra-dural: 29.RESULTS: Statistical analysis (X test) did not demonstrated significant differenceCONCLUSION: In certain conditions (without intracranal hemorrhage \ intra cranial hypertension ), the way 梩rans extra-dual by pterional approach relatively simple \ less invasion to brain and less complication. Others would receive operation by inter梔ural pterional approach.
