The Blood-activating and Stasis-eliminating TCM Database (BSTD) was built and the association between Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) effect and activities was found by data mining technique under TCM theory. The study provided theoretical evidence for perfectly explaining the rationality of the new drugs which was made up of the active components of TCM, and it was used as methodological direction to the basic researches of TCM drug properties based on effects and components compatibility.Some components effect can directly inherit from the preparation effect, others can be ascertained by the extraction from the association between the TCM effect and activities. Because of a large amount of data and the systematic research on the Blood-activating and Stasis-eliminating TCM, the methodology research began with it and the research mainly included two aspects as follows.Building the database: The BSTD was built by the database management system of ISIS/Base. The database consisted of the information about the Blood-activating and Stasis-eliminating TCM,the components and the references,providing a research platform for the data mining of Blood-activating and Stasis-eliminating TCM and a method for the data mining of TCM.Knowledge discovery in databases (KDD): A study of the association between the effect of"Blood-activating and Stasis-eliminating"in 53 kinds of TCM and 17 kinds of activities was carried out by Bayesian belief network analysis technique after the terms of effects and activities were classified and standarded, and the results were showed by directed acycline graph and conditional probability tables. The correct classification rate of the method is 89.4737%. The effect of Blood-activating and Stasis-eliminating can be predicted by this model, and the feasibility of drug properties research based on this method was discussed. The results provided a cue for the establishment of components effects and methodological reference for the relevant basic research of the Blood-activating and Stasis-eliminating TCM.The results show that the effect of"Blood-activating and Stasis-eliminating"was mainly correlated with the activities of analgesia, anti-pathogenic microorganism, inhibiting platelet aggregation, anti-thrombogenesis, antitumor, improving microcirculation, lowering blood glucose, improving hemorheology, lowering blood pressure, antioxidation, immunoregulation, lowering blood lipid, antiearly pregnancy, anti-aging, inhibiting myocardial ischemia and anoxia, inhibiting cerebral ischemia and anoxia, anti-atherosclerosis, hadro-cardia and improving renal function. A further research was carried out by Bayesian belief network analysis technique on topology graph and conditional probability tables. The correct classification rate of the method is 89.4737%.
