Occurring with the highest incidence among all kidney disorders, glomerulonephritis, a common and frequently encountered condition of internal diseases, has become the most cause of end-stage renal disorders. Chinese herbs have multiple effects on combating glomerulonephritis, such as alleviating symptoms and reducing urinary protein, to postpone the progress of glomerulonephritis towards renal failure. Accordingly, it is significant to do further research on the treatment of glomerulonephritis with Chinese medicine. There are three parts in this thesis, including literature review, pathogenesis explication and clinical studies.Literature review will be presented in two sections. The first is Theory and Current study of Chinese Medicine on Wind-associated Kidney Diseases, which introduces the definition of glomerulonephritis, its etiology and pathogenesis, therapeutic methods and prescriptions in Chinese medicine, and points out present problems and future expectations. The second is Advances of Modern Medicine Researches on Glomerulonephritis, which elucidates characteristics of glomerulonephritis and advancements of its treatment from the view of modern medicine.Pathogenesis explication explains that the wind evil is closely related to the occurrence of kidney diseases and is the main cause of wind-associated kidney disorders. Using the experiences from specialists, it also enumerates a group of primary glomerulopathies, such as acute nephritis, rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis, chronic nephritis, nephritic syndrome and latent nephritis from the wind evil point. The establishment of wind-associated kidney diseases will serve as a foundation stone for clinical practices. In clinical studies, 116 patients with chronic glomerulonephritis were divided into two groups, adopting randomized block method. Along with a same basic therapy, 80 of 116 patients were treated with Chinese herb decoction orally to replenish Qi, tonify kidney and promote blood circulation to dissipate blood stasis; whereas 36 of 116 were designed as controls with the treatment of Shen Yan Kang Fu tablets. During the whole treatment of 28 days, analysis on the qualitative determination of urinary protein and creatinine clearance rate was performed. Results showing that this Chinese herb decoction significantly increased creatinine clearance rate and decreased urinary proteins suggest that this method could improve glomerular filtrating function to eventually ameliorate renal function of the patients suffering from chronic...
