Severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS) is a newly emerging disease with a high case-fatality and strong infectivity. It haunted the world from November 2002 to 2003,affecting more than 8000 people and in 28 regions with a mortality of 9.6%.So,SARS has been called the first murrain of 21st century. The dizarster not only badly hurt the people's mentality, but also slower the development of National economy. In response to this outbreak,WHO coordinated an international collbaration that incuding clinical, epidemiological, and laboratory investigation.Attempts to identify the etiology of SARS outbreak were successful during the third week of March 2003,When laboratories in the United State,Canada,Germany and Hongkongisolated a novel coronavirus from SARS patients.Unlike other human coronavirus,it was possible to isolate SARS-CoV in Vero cells. It has been confirmed SARS-CoV infection in different regions ;SARS RNA has frequently been detected in respiratory specimens, and convalescence-phase serum specimens from SARS patients contain antibodyies that react with SARS-CoV. There is strong evidence that this new virus is etiologically linked to the outbreak of SARS.SARS-CoV is a new sort of coronavirus, the pathogenic characteristic, pathogenesis and epidemiological rule is very different from other coronavirus. The genome sequence data will aid in the diagnosis of SARS virus infection in humans and potential animal hosts (using PCR and immunological...
