In this paper , soluble pentoxifylline was used as the model drug to prepare the controlled release tablets by using osmotic technology. The auther also explore the feasibility of preparing timed-release tablets based on osmotic technology.UV method was utilized to detect the pentoxifylline content and release of the controlled release tablets . The effects of many factors including formulation of tablet core and membrane , arts of tablet and the condition of drug release on the release behavior of controlled release tablets were investigated. After comprehensive pre-formulation research, amount of CMS-Na and lactose were selected as the causal factors. The drug release rate was used as the major evaluation standard to optimize the formulation according to orthogonal experiment design. The results indicated that drug release profiles of the optimal formulation had the excellent zero-order release character in vitro. In addition, the results of stability experiment indicated that this product was sensitive to humidity and heat. Exposed on the conditions of RH 75% and 92.5% after 10 days , the tablet core became moistish and the drug release character was changed markedly, but the disgregate product didn't increase. Under heat, the experiment results were similar to above. But under light and accelerating conditions, the product was stable.Drug has different solubility in various saturated solution of osmotic promoting agents . In the paper ,the theoretic basis of preparing delayed release tablets by using osmotic pump tablets technique was illustrated.
