Astragalus Dialysate Peritoneal Dialysis Adequacy In Clinical Studies

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) served as a main means of renal replacement therapy has been introduced into clinic for more than 20 years. With the developping of technology and equipment, the incidence of the peritonitis has already been reduced greatly at present, while the dialysis insufficiency and ultrafiltration failure have been the main problems which PD patients are faced with. Therefore the domestic and international scholars are devoted to studying how to improve adequacy of PD or ultrafiltration function in recent years for a long time.This subject aims at investigating the effects of traditional Chinese medicine on PD. Seeing that PD patients majority belong to Qi-deficiency of the spleen-kidney according to Chinese medicine theory dialectical, so it is suitable for using the helping medicine. Considering the pharmacology characteristic of Astragalus, this research link up Astragalus injection with peritoneal dialysate, and 29 patients on PD were either given Astragalus injection in PD solution or dialysate alone for one week. These 29 patients were divided into two groups at random, 18 in treating group among them, 11 in contrast group. After the treating and comparing the two groups, it showed that the indexes of adequacy of PD, ultrafiltration function and nutrition state in treating group are superior to those in contrast groups. Moreover, comparing before and after treating of the treating group, we found that these patients' states had been obviously improved. So we conclude that Astragalus injection added in PD solution can enhance the therapeutic effect of PD and contribute to the improvement of patient's life quality.
