Study Of Health Care Workers Optimistic Personality Tendencies And Its Related Factors

The purpose of this research was to confirm the structure of dispositional optimism, develop measurement tool, test the mediator effect of coping between optimism and depression, anxiety, and satisfaction with life. In 4 samples of 658 college students and 526 medical staff, using interview and questionnaire investigation method, and Utilizing Spss 12.0 and Lisrel 8.70 to analyze the data, following conclusions was found:1. The one factor structure to dispositional optimism theory was supported.2. The reliability and validity of Dispositional Optimism Questionnaire (DOQ) were good not only for college students but also for medical staff. DOQ could be used to measure individual's dispositional optimism.3. The reliability and validity of Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) revised in this research were good. It could be used to measure individual's general satisfaction with life.4. The difference among medical staff's gender, age, sort, position, and working years to dispositional optimism were not found. Degree significant difference to dispositional optimism was found, and the bachelor's level of optimism was higher than doctor's.5. Dispositional optimism had significantly negative correlation with depression and anxiety, and had significantly positive correlation with satisfaction with life. The relationship of dispositional optimism and coping was: dispositional optimism had significantly positive correlation with solving-problem and seeking-help, and had significantly negative correlation with self-blame, illusion, retreat and reasonableness.6. Dispositional optimism could predict coping style, depression, anxiety, and satisfaction with life directly. Solving-problem was a partial mediator between optimism and depression. Self-blame, illusion and retreat were partial mediators between optimism and depression, anxiety, and satisfaction with life. Reasonableness was a partial mediator between optimism and depression and anxiety, and a full mediator between optimism and satisfaction with life.
