| [Objective] To detect the formaldehyde and xylene levels in the air of pathological department of hospitals and investigate effects of the air pollution on the staff health. Meanwhile, the knowledge, attitudes and practice of the staff for the formaldehyde and xylene pollution were also studied. The present study aims to provide staff of pathological departments with consulting suggestions.[Methods] (1) We performed a study on pathological departments of 6 hospitals in ChangSha, where the formaldehyde and xylene concentrations in air of specimen collection room, technical room and diagnosis room were detected. (2) 108 staff of pathological departments (exposed group) and 116 administrative staff (control group) did the standardized questionaire about the knowledge, attitudes and practice. (3) The biochemistry values in blood of the two groups, which were measured in last health examination, were analyzed. (4) Pulmonary ventilation functions of 60 staff in the exposed group were examined.[Results] (1) The levels of formaldehyde((?)±s) in specimen collection room, technical room and diagnosis room are 2.81±0.95 mg/m~3,0.18±0.09 mg/m~3 and 0.12±0.03 mg/m~3 respectively. The value of formaldehyde in specimen collection room is over 0.5mg/m~3 government standard. And the xylene levels((?)±s) in these three rooms are 0.06±0.02 mg/m~3,0.68±0.25 mg/m~3 and 0.17±0.10 mg/m~3 respectively (below the government standard).(2) The symptoms of eyes and respiratory tract (lachrymation, eye irritation, pharyngalgia, rhinocnesmus, cough), nerve system (dizziness, acratia, short breath, headache, hyperhidrosis, itch of skin, insomnia ) in the exposed group are significantly more frequent than those in control. The incidence of pharyngo-laryngitis chronically and chronic rhinitis in the exposed group are also higher than those in control.(3)Pulmonary ventilation function indices(FVC%, FEV1%, PEF%, V75% ,V25%) in the exposed group are significantly lower than those in control. (4) As to the values of blood biochemistry(leucocyte, erythrocyte, Liver function, blood pressure, blood fat, blood sugar), there are no significant difference between the exposed group and the control. (5) The staff of pathological departments demand occupational health.[Conclusions] (1) The persistent pollution of formaldehyde and xylene exists in pathological department of hospitals, the value of formaldehyde in specimen collection room is over 0.5mg/m~3 government standard. (2) The pollution of formaldehyde and xylene has an obvious influence on the respiratory , nerve and immunity system. (3) The Pulmonary ventilation function (show in small airway) of staff in pathological department of hospitals decrease temporarily, it is helped for pulmonary ventilation functions detection to discover respiratory system's damage (4)We will increase propaganda and education to reduce effects of the pathological department's air pollution. |
