Objective:This Quasi-experimental study is aimed to survey the influence ofanxiety after preopeartive visit and education to the patients whoscheduled to undergo cataract operation under local anesthesia.Methods:A total 81 patients, ageds>50, first time undergoing cataract operationunder local anesthesia,were randomly assigned to as experimental group or agroup used as test subjects .The patients in the experimental group (n=40),received a special education session on their admission afternoon. Thecontral group (n=41) followed the routine hospital protocol, which almostno preoperative education. According to the Trail Anxiety Inventory TAI byCharles D. Spielderger,etc,as the screening indicator, the levels of anxietyper and peri-operation were assessed using State anxiety Inventory SAI,prei-operative blood pressure and heart rate were assisted index to assessthe anxiety, assessed the congnitive level by abbreviated mental test AMT.ResultsAt preoperative anxiety there was no differences (P>0.05)between twogroups. During operation, the anxiety level was significant lower(P<0.01)than preoperative state. Statistical significance (P<0.01) was noted for theexperimental group in terms of perioperative anxiety.ConclusionPreoperative paitent education can reduce the anxiety level duringoperation, benefits for the cooperation from the patients, to increase theoperative successful rate. raising the quality of nursing, and the outline ofthe relevant education and promotion.
