Constipation is one of the common clinic symptoms. The symptoms can be described as constipation caused by colorectal conduction disorders, the too long cycle of defecation, dry and hard fecal without long cycle, feeling of incomplete evacuation with no hard stools. Constipation is due to heat accumulated in large intestine, qi stagnation, cold coagulation, stagnation of phlegm-dampness, yin deficiency, yang deficiency, qi deficiency, xue deficiency and so on.Along with social development, the habits of people's work, lifestyle and the structure of diet have changed. As a result of these changes, accompanied with mental and emotional impact and ageing of population, the incidence of spleen and stomach diseases have been upward. Constipation, as the Common spleen and stomach disease, is widely seen among the patients. Foreign information suggested the incidence of constipation in young people was 3%, 8% for the middle-aged, and 20% of the elderly. Beijing regional epidemiological investigations revealed that the incidence of constipation was 6.07%.During the period of moret than 2000 years from the Pre-Qin to xi-han Dynasty, the experts and doctors have summarized rich medicating experience via long-term clinic observation and practices. Their understanding on the cause, the characters and dialectic medication of constipation are gradually perfected , rich medicating experiences are accumulated and a great amount of data and materials are left. The healing effects of many methods were proved to be exact and reliable after long-term repeat verification.This article focuses on analysizing and summarizing the differences and similarities of experts'views during a certain period and the relationship between the inheritance and development of these views after collecting a comprehensive data on constipation and undertaking an examination, classification and analysis of the relevant data.and then lays out the overall awareness of Chinese medicine on constipation Syndrome this period. the inheritance and development of doctors'views are clarified, and choroid of cognitive development of constipation Syndrome from the Pre-Qin Dynasty is obtained by analyzing the similarities and differences of academic views between different doctors at different periods.The content of the article can be divided into three parts: The first consists of section I and section II , which introduces History and the Name study of relevant name of constipation syndrome , defines clearly constipation from the perspective of Chinese medicine,and then lists on the classification of constipation , reviews the essence,the connotation, the argument, the advantages and disadvantages of the related classification.Chapter 3 to 9 is the content of the second part,the most part of the article devotes to exploring and analyzing the main works and experts'thoughts at every period,summarizing their uniqueness.The mainline of the article is constructed basing on all the dynasties from Pre-Qin dynasty to modern which includes Pre-Qin to Xi-han dynasty ,Dong-Han dynasty, Jin dynasty,NanBei dynasty,Sui dynasty,Tang,Song,Yuan,Ming,Qing , the republic of china and Morden.First it gives a comprehensive introduction on the cognition of constipation, and then undertake a specific analysis on those representative works which involves many aspects such as the cause of the disease, interpretation of the cause, diagnosis and examination, treatment, with medicine characteristic and aftercare and so on.Chapter 10 is the content of the third part.This part discusses some special topics associated with the constipation, states the auther's views.
