AIDS is the acronym of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, which is a kind of infective disease caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV).HIV can destroy immune system of human body, make people susceptible to opportunistic infection and tumor.AIDS was first found in homosexuality in America in 1981.In 1985,the first case was reported in China. In 2007 the Ministry of Health,UNAIDS and WHO have prepared updated assessment of the AIDS epidemic in China. The estimation result showed that by the end of 2007,approximately 700000 were HIV positive(range 550,000-850,000).The HIV infection rate among China's population was 0.05 percent(range 0.04-0.07%).The estimated number of AIDS cases was 85,000 (range 80,000-90,000).The estimated new HIV infections in 2007 were 50,000(range 40,000-60,000) and there were estimated 20,000 AIDS-related deaths (range15,000-25,000).Among the living HIV positives,40.6 percent were infected through heterosexual transmission.Currently,China's HIV epidemic remains one of low prevalence overall, but with pockets of high infection among specific sub-populations and in some localities. The characteristic of the epidemic in China are: The epidemic continues to expand, but the rate is slowing;sexual transmission is now the main mode for the spread of HIV;geographic distribution is highly varied;and the epidemic continues to be driven by high-risk behaviour within particular sub-populations.Antiretroviral therapy is the key treatment. The goal of therapy, therefore,is the maximal and durable suppression of viral load and restoration and/or preservation of immunological function to improve quality of life and reduce HIV-related morbidity and mortality.Clearly, antiretroviral therapy is not without significant side-effects and toxicity.A patient's ability to adhere to a regimen is critical for successful treatment. Ninety to ninety-five percent adherence to therapy is required,as levels of adherence below this are associated with poor virological and immunological response, resulting in increased risk of disease progression.Poor adherence leads to the development of drug resistance, further limiting the effectiveness of therapy. It is therefore important to consider factors such as toxicity, pill burden, number of dosing times per day,and dietary restriction which may impact on the ability of a patient to adhere to a given regimen. However there are still some problems can not be solved smoothly such as toxicity, side effect and resistance.TCM plays a very important role in HIV/AIDS treating.Combination TCM and western medicine put emphasis on both virus and immunological condition.Combining TCM with western medicine aims to increase the clinical effect and reduce side-effect,promote immunological reconstitution, decrease the dose of ARV drugs, prolong the acting time of ARV drug, increase the compliance of patient, reduce drug resistance, alleviate clinical signs and symptoms, improve quality of life.In 1987,more than 50 experts who are selected from CACMS went to Dar es Salaam which is the de facto capital of Tanzania cooperate with Tanzania national hospital in application of TCM therapy for AIDS patient and HIV carrier. They try their best in clinical and scientific research, their contributions are numerous and influential in and abroad. The "treatment based on syndrome differentiation" put emphasis on individual diagnoses and treatment in order to handle the complicated and alterable HIV-related clinical condition. Many clinical trials indicate that TCM has a good clinical effect on HIV/AIDS.The research analyses and summarizes 320 cases of HIV/AIDS through blood to blood contact.Clinical information and laboratory examination results are collected. We research on the relationship between traditional Chinese medicine syndromes and CD4 cell count,TCM syndromes and viral load,so as to provide theory basis of TCM treating different periods of AIDS,to guide therapeutics and to improve clinical effect. It is practicable to investigate an economic and effective method or pattern which is suitable to domestic situation. 1 ObjectiveThrough summarizing and analyzing 320 cases of HIV/AIDS through blood to blood contact,we research on the relationship between traditional Chinese medicine syndromes and CD4 cell count,TCM syndromes and viral load,so as to provide theory basis of TCM treating different periods of AIDS,to guide therapeutics and to improve clinical effect.2 Methods320 cases of HIV/AIDS through blood to blood contact in Guang'anmen hospital were analyzed.Clinical information was collected.CD4 cell count and viral load were examined.CD4 cell count was divided into four levels:0-50/ul,51-200/ul,201-350/ul,>350/ul.Viral load was divided into four levels by 500copies/ml,104copies/ml,and 105copies/ml.Then we research on the relationship between traditional Chinese medicine syndromes and CD4 cell count,TCM syndromes and viral load.3 ResultsDiagnosis is according to "3 period and 12 TCM syndromes".In different stages, patients have different syndromes. At different levels of CD4 cell count, distributions of TCM syndromes are:CD4 cell count is between 51-200/ul,syndromes are more likely found to be syndrome of "Qi deficiency and Blood stasis" and "Deficiency of both Spleen and Kidney&Retention of Dampness".While it is between 201-350/ul, syndromes are more likely found to be syndrome of "Qi deficiency and Blood stasis", "Qi and Yin Deficiency & Lung and Kidney Deficiency" and "Deficiency of both Spleen and Kidney&Retention of Dampness".However it is up to 350/ul,syndromes are more likely found to be syndrome of "Qi and blood deficiency" and "Qi deficiency and Blood stasis".As to viral load:VL is between 0-500copies/ml,syndromes are more likely found to be syndrome of "Qi deficiency and Blood stasis","Qi and Yin Deficiency & Lung and Kidney Deficiency" and "Qi and blood deficiency".VL is between 500copies/ml-104copies/ml,syndromes are more likely found to be syndrome of "Qi and blood deficiency","accumulation of phlegm-heat in lung","Stagnation of live-qi" and "Qi deficiency and Blood stasis".VL is between 104copies/ml-105copies/ml, syndromes are more likely found to be syndrome of"Qi and blood deficiency".4 ConclusionsThe most common syndrome of HIV/AIDS through blood to blood contact is "Qi deficiency and Blood stasis".The TCM syndromes are distributed differently according to "CD4 cell count",and "viral load" is closely related to TCM syndromes.
