Objective To evaluate the feasibility of WB-DWI in healthy volunteers, using SE-EPI-DWI sequene,and to investigate the signal characteristics on DWI imagings of the normal human body. Materials and Methods 10 healthy volunteers underwent WB-DWI examinations using SS-SE-EPI sequene with b values of 0 and 800 s/mm. Results SS-SE-EPI sequene was suceessfully performed in all of the 10 healthy volunteers,and both the original and 3D-MIP reconstruction images were clear and satisfied.The group of images with b values of 800 s/mm2 without fat contamination were satisfied with diagnosis. The organs and organizations with high signal are brain,spinal cord,hypothyroid,sexual gland(include prostate,seminal vesicle,ovary and so on),spleen,intervertebral discs and bladder. Conclusion SE-EPI sequene can be used for WB-DWI examination and get satisfied images for diagnosis. Objective To investigate the valuses of whole-body diffusion-weighted imaging(WB-DWI) in diagnosing the whole-body metastases from malignant tumors. Materials and Methods 30 patients with malignant tumors underwent routine CT/MRI and WB-DWI examinations.The detecting rates of malignant metastases by routine CT/MRI and CT/MRI in combination with WB-DWI were stastistically analysed compared with final clinical results. Results There were 109 metastatic lesions diagnosed by clinic finally.there were 63 metastatic lesions diagnosed by routine CT/MRI,119 ones were diagnosed by CT/MRI in combination with WB-DWI.The sensitivity,specificity, accuracy, false negative rate and false positive rate for detecting the metastatic lesions were 61.47%,44.83%,57.97%,34.48%,65.52% respectively by routine CT/MRI,and 91.74%,34.48%,79.71%,34.48%,65.52% respectively by routine CT/MRI in combination with WB-DWI.There was significant difference in diagnosing malignant metastases between these two methods(P<0.05) Conclusion WB-DWI is of significant value in detecting malignant metastases. Objective To evaluate the feasibility and clinical value of whole body diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging(WB-DWI) in detection of bone metastases compared with bone scintigraphy. Materials and Methods 32 patients with malignant tumors underwent WB-DWI and bone scintigraphy examinations.Totally 21 patients with malignant tumors and suspected bone metastases were enrolled.All patients underwent WB-DWI and bone scintigraphy within 1 week.The skeletal system was divided into 10 regions:skull,sternum and clavicle,scapula,ribs,cervical spine,thoracic spine,lumbar spine,sacrum,pelvis,limb. Hot spots as well as cold spots in bone scan images with metastatic characteristics and signals higher than background in MR-DWI were distinguished as metastatic foci.Bone metastases were assessed for both modalities in a separate consensus reading and apparent diffusion coefficient ADC) values were calculate. Results WB-DWI, identified 69 pathological lesions in 20 patients,while bone scintigraphy demonstrated 50 lesions in 17 patients.Compared with bone scintigraphy,the regions missed by WB-DWI were mainly located in skull, cervical spine,thoracic spine,humerus,and tibia/fibula.WB-DWI was more sensitive in the detection of metastases to the lumbar spine,sacrum,pelvis,ribs and femur.No statistical significance was found among the ADC values of bone metastases in different skeletal areas.Furthermore,WB-DWI revealed more metastases to extraskeletal organs. Conclusion WB-DWI has high accordance with skeletal scintigraphy in detecting bone metastases,and the two modalities are complementary to each other.
