Katherine Anne Poter is one of the most outstanding American woman writers. Being mature is one of the biggest themes in her novels. Female awareness is a backbone of his novels. The essay pays the most attention to the point that the self- awareness is becoming mature to find the lost self in the modern society.As the society is more and more progressive, the self-awareness is waking. The characters in Poter's novels underwent self-attraction, self-growth, self-lost and self-betray, self-surpassing. In the different stage of life, different race and gender underwent different self-awareness too. There are various self-awareness expressions. There are full of difficulties on the way to the self-growth. Others are the biggest obstacle. The essay focuses on the analysis of the texts seriously to find that only put oneself in the reality, believe yourself, treat other people correctly, could your self-surpassing be true.There are four chapters in the essay in total. The first chapter is about self-waking. The second chapter is the most important one in the essay analyzing various phenomenons of self-growth. Combining the analysis of her novels and the author's own upbringing experiences reviews the theme of Poter's novels from self-growth which is a brand new angel to explore Poter's creation spirits and the spiritual connotations. The third chapter is about the main obstacles on the way to self-growth. The last chapter is to find a correct way for the self-growth to go in the modern society for the modern people.
