Yan Dan Zi, as one of the best existing history novel of the Han Dynasty, bears very important research value. This book mainly tells the story that the prince of Yan, named Dan, sent his warrior Jing Ke to avenge him, that is, to kill the King of Qin.No one can tell the original story since it is handed down from earlier times for so many years. The book now is coped from Yung-lo collections of the Ming Dynasty by Ji XiaoLan,who authorized scholar Sun Xingyan to revise and organize it. Although there are few versions handed down and the content is incomplete, but after efforts of ancient and modern people, great achievement has still been made in collation and interpretation, which also plays an invaluable role in spreading the story Yan Dan Zi.Yan Dan Zi bears great academic value. In terms of literature and art, Yan Dan Zi, is in the historical and biographical style. It is rich of stories, mixes together into a great of gossip, features in fiction and hyperbole, and vividly describes the lives of the characters in great detail. It is grant, structured with distinct characters, showing the new features of the prototype novel; In terms of historical value, Yan Dan Zi breaks through the disadvantage of the past stories that character of the figures are not full, and the story is too limited. What's more, it also joins the folklore, which accumulates precious experience for history novels afterwards; In terms of language arts, Yan Dan Zi not only has the style of both Mencius and Xunzi, but also has the aspect of political strategists, brief, vivid and breathtaking, which preserves the original style of the Han language.As it handed down, Yan Dan Zi experiences kinds of departure from the true story. Scholars of now and past, in the attitude of rigorous and sound style, improve it a lot. Yan Dan Zi translated by Mr.Wang Haitian, is a complete and convincing version. However, there are still some negotiable parts. So I, with my meager knowledge, based on Complete Translation of Yan Dan Zi, refer to the notes and translation of Mr. Cao Haidong in his New Translation of Yan Dan Zi, revision of Mr. Cheng Yizhong, Mr. Liu Wenzhong's Notes of Well-known Classical Fiction and other versions, to reorganize and study it on words interpretation, collation, and sentences.In this essay I take thirty-nine cases to elaborate my view in the form of notes, excerpts, comparison and picking holes, please oblige me with your valuable comments.
