Qi Qi China "for The" Code Of The Households And The Grassroots Social Organization Research

Pre-Qin period was the foundation of Chinese history and being the conclusion time of pre-Qin period, Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period was of great significance too. It was a time of vassals competing for bigger power, of endless wars, and of a historical time for cultural development. Big powers carried out reforms on politics, economy and social culture for self-interests with hope of increasing strength, preparing for conquest wars;while weaker powers, duo to their various limitations, had to attach themselves to big powers for protection. Though with some kind of limitations, in the process of wars, every country drafted developing strategies based on their own conditions, and finally cultivated cultures with local characteristics, and cultural centers of different fashions and style came into being too. Qi was a kingdom that Emperor of Zhou Wu bestowed to family Jiang. Politically, King of Jiang inherited the political systems of XiZhou, honouring the sage and those who contributed a lot to the kingdom; economically, according to Qi's unique circumstance, he encouraged commerce, industry and the kingdom's affluent fishery and salt industry, which established Qi's status as a big economic power, and an important kingdom in DongZhou period. In light of these advantages, Qi developed a splendid culture with strong local color. "Household register", though appeared in Han Dynasty as a set of ripe system, was initiated in Qi and its form of social organization facilitated population management research in later times and improvement of social basic system. Study on household register in Qi provided us with some common knowledge on this system. Therefore, from Qi's household and its form of social basic organization, the writer investigated the system's development level and features in different phases through analysis of records left in history and pottery inscriptions in Warring State Period to prove the significance of initiation of Qi's "household register" and its influence on the thousands of years to come.This thesis concentrated on system-culture of Qi culture, especially on Qi's basic administration organization and development of household register, and led to some beneficial conclusions. On one side, Qi's administration system inherited part of institutions of XiZhou's subinfeudation, on the other hand, it combined with local customs, and developed an administration system different from kingdoms in Central Plain. When time came to Spring and Autumn Period, Qi's provincial social basic system had had already a primary frame after reforms by King of Huan and GuanZhong. After centuries of development of this period, Qi established a comparatively complete administration frame with two sets of systems, only being inefficient in functions of basic organization, basic organization had no specific administrative functions, but acted as a necessary organization for military purpose. Meanwhile, provincial administrative organization was defined by region, nevertheless, it did so on a large scale and was still marked by blood relationship. However, the direction was irreversible. In Warring State Period, as the development of social economy and changes in social classes, pushed by reforms, the social nature of Qi changed. Its provincial administrative system was completed basically, characteristic by a system constituted by county, district and Li with the county the highest level, which represented the establishment of centralization in Qi kingdom. The provincial administrative organization changed a lot too, for generally counties were defined by region, and blood relationship which functioned critically before withered away, besides, the county's function became definite as well. At the same time, on problem of population management, the state's control on population got more and more tight since XiZhou to DongZhou.basic administrative organization and household register in Qi, as an important part of Qi culture, endowed important influence on traditional system culture, population management and improvement of social basic organization.
