Through the intertextual analysis of paintings and novel, especially the works of Monet, Manet, Whistler, Cezanne and the novel-In Search of the Time Lost, the thesis intends to discuss the way we dispel the cartesian vision dominated by reason, which obscure the fleshy vision(the terminology of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, La vision charnelle). Both the painters and the writer try to render the invisible visible, and make their flesh resonate with the flesh of the world empathically. The series of Monet's The Rouen Cathedral not only inspire Proust's view of time and memory, but are also related to how to capture the profiles of Martinville steeples and that of Albertine. In the sunshine, the series of Monet's Waterlilies deconstruct the demarcation between objects and their reflections, which is analogous to the question of reality and truth in the novel. The Impressionist painter Elstir integrates the artistic vision of Cezanne, Whistler and Monet, with the reconstruction of his image by Proust. The former's vision and style also reveals the perspective and style of Proust.
